The Larchmont Farmers Market has been approved for operation this Sunday, according to Melissa Farwell of Raw Inspirations, the market manager.  All farmers markets in the City of Los Angeles are now required to have an approved COVID-19 operational plan approved by the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services (StreetsLA), under public health orders from LA County, LA City and Mayor Garcetti’s March 30, 2020 directive. As a result, shoppers will see the following changes to the market this Sunday, according to Farwell:

“We will have one entry in and one exit out, handicap access at either.  Vendors setups will be different, because the produce will be setup behind them and farmers will have to choose and bag.  We have had, and will continue to have, hand washing stations popped up throughout the market. We ask customers to shop as quickly as possible,” wrote Farwell in a message to the Buzz this afternoon.

“Further, if shoppers are able to leave children home, that is a plus. If people come as a family, we advise them to split up and shop the list, do not do it together. Our goal is to help everyone shop more expeditiously. We will only have our agricultural vendors which includes the farmers, and ranchers with eggs, as well as chicken.”

As reported yesterday, responding to complaints from around the city that farmers markets are still attracting unhealthy numbers of people, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced that all such markets will be temporarily “suspended.”

Markets that comply with rules established by the city have been permitted to resume operations. The Bureau of Street Services’ website  has a list of markets that have been approved to re-open.
