3rd Street Between La Brea and Hauser to be Resurfaced This Weekend

Third Street

The LA Bureau of Street Surfaces (LABSS) will be finishing off the 3rd Street resurfacing project in a two phase effort this weekend. Access to 3rd Street between La Brea Avenue and Hauser Boulevard will be severely limited both Saturday and Sunday.

Phase 1 | Saturday, March 15 – 6a-4p

Crews from LABSS will begin the process of Cold Milling – the controlled removal of 2 inches of the asphalt surface. The milling of 3rd Street to the partial depth of 2 inches, will result in a textured pavement that can be used immediately as a driving surface.

3rd Street west of La Brea will be closed to traffic from 6a-4p on Saturday, with some local access upon request. Traffic will be diverted at La Brea on the east side of this project. On the west side of the project, traffic will be diverted at Fairfax early in the day; then at Hauser to the south after cold milling on that intersection has been completed.

BSS crews will work with local residents and businesses to help them access their property. Drivers who require help are reminded to take extra care and to make sure they establish eye contact and directions from crews in their immediate area.

Phase 2 | Sunday, March 16 – 6a-4p

On Sunday, the work continues as crews from LABSS work to lay down a fresh coat of pavement. Crews will re-open this portion of 3rd Street late in the day, after the surface has time to cool and set. There will be no-local access on Sunday until after 4p.

Expect traffic delays on La Brea Avenue, 3rd Street, 6th Street, Beverly Boulevard and cross streets west of La Brea. LADOT message boards have been set up on 3rd Street east of Highland and west of Fairfax to serve as reminders of the weekend detour.

Once this project is completed, the LABSS will have delivered on the commitment to resurface 3rd Street between La Brea Avenue and Fairfax Avenue.
