A diseased sycamore tree fell last night, damaging a house on the 500 block of N. Cahuenga Blvd. The owners of the home told NBC News they thought the tree was dying, and asked the city to remove it in 2014.

According to NBC:  “It was tilting more and more,” said resident Bob Ingram. “It was starting to tilt sideways. It was decayed, it was dying.

“I feel like we tried to kind of do something about this and they refused.”  Ingram said he first contacted the city about the tree as early as 2014. The family showed NBC4 a Bureau of Street Services request form dated October 2014 in which they indicated “Help is needed immediately.”

Our recent wind and storms may be contributing to the downing of diseased trees (another fell in our area on Sunday), and with more El Niño storms likely in the next few months, it’s a good reminder to be aware of our trees and take time to assess their health.
