It’s not too late to get tickets for the LA Conservancy’s LA Historic Neighborhood Conference this Saturday. The day-long forum on neighborhood preservation is being presented by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning’s Office of Historic Resources and the Conservancy for anyone who is interested in learning more about preserving LA’s diverse neighborhoods.
This year’s theme focuses on “community character, from tree-lined streets of historic homes, to clusters of older duplexes and bungalow courts, to “background buildings” in industrial neighborhoods,” according to the Conservancy.  Panel discussions at the conference will examine a range of topics including mansionization, historic and conservation districts, community advocacy, and the City’s re:code LA initiative.
Charles Phoenix will kick off the conference with a live slide show performance Charles Phoenix: Architecture in Los Angeles! celebrating L.A. neighborhoods, local landmarks, Googie, mid-century mod, themed-environments, and more.
Presented this year with the West Adams Heritage Association, the conference will take place at the historic St. John’s Cathedral on West Adams Blvd. Attendees can choose from a number of panel discussions in the morning and afternoon. The conference will conclude with guided walking tours of several historic neighborhoods nearby.  Visit the Conservancy website for more detailed information on the schedule.
Registration for the conference is picking up so if you are interested in attending, Conservancy staff recommend that you go online soon to buy your tickets.  Before Saturday, tickets are $30 and $35 on Saturday.
“If you are interested in attending, we strongly encourage people to register in advance to insure there’s a spot,” said Laura Dominguez, Preservation Coordinator at the Conservancy.
