David Ryu will replace termed out Councilman Tom LaBonge representing Council District 4 on the Los Angeles City Council. Â After polls closed Tuesday, Ryu started the evening with a 1,000 vote lead over Carolyn Ramsay with the early results on the vote by mail ballots. He maintained the lead all evening ending with a 1,612 vote margin after all the precincts had reported according to unofficial results reported on the city’s website.
The Los Angeles Times block by block vote analysis of the race locally showed Ramsay carrying Larchmont Village, Brookside and Windsor Square areas with Hancock Park, most of Mid-Wilshire and neighborhoods along Koreatown voted for Ryu.
When he takes office in July, Ryu will be the first Korean American to hold a seat on the Los Angeles City Council.
Congrats to David for a well-run campaign. Let’s hope he stays the course and does some good for the district. LaBonge did some good work and I think if David can navigate the city-council and union politics he can clean things up quite a bit and help the city.
