Craft Beer Close to Home

Beer Belly Craft Beer

If you are in to craft beer, there’s a great local spot that you will want to get to know. Beer Belly: a craft beer bar is a cool spot that’s a perfect place to hang with friends, watch a game, or listen to music – all while discovering some of the great craft beers being produced in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Beer Belly is set towards the back of the parking lot behind the popular I Love Boba shop on the east side of Western Avenue, between 5th and 6th.  We discovered it when we came across an online map that plots all the craft beer bars in the Los Angeles area (see below)…if not for the map, Beer Belly would have remained under the radar for us!

Beer Belly has been around for over a year…and they’ve built up a good business in that time. One of the most appealing things about the place is how comfortable it is. The crowd ranged from people studying, to two women catching up over a flight of beer, to a group gathering to watch a game.

Beers vary in price from $6-$8 a glass. They have a four-beer flight available for $10 – you pick the beers you want to try. Most of their craft beers are brewed in the LA area, although they sometimes get some exceptional brews from out of town…like the Victory Hop Ale from Downington, PA (outside Philadelphia) that they had on tap this past weekend. That’s one of the great things about craft beers – the discovery and the true craftsmanship that goes into brewing a barrel.

We didn’t have a chance to try any food at Beer Belly, but the bartender told us that their most popular eats are the Duck Fat Fries and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. We’ll be back – there are still lots of beers to try!
