Cancer Run Looking for Local Involvement

Survivor lap crowd at Relay for Life event.

Relay for Life is a nationwide American Cancer Society fundraising event that takes place in local communities. Our local event, scheduled for June 9-10, 2012, is now getting organized and needs input and involvement from residents of the Larchmont, Hancock Park and greater Wilshire areas. Are you a cancer survivor or know someone who has battled cancer? This is a team you may want to join, bringing the fight against cancer closer to home in a fun, athletic and moving way.

This Tuesday, March 6, an organizational meeting (free, light breakfast!) will be hosted at Louise’s Tratorria 232 N. Larchmont Blvd. from 10-11:30 am.  Organizer Maylene Luzod will be hosting the breakfast and give Larchmont residents an idea of the planned run.

The Relay for Life is an overnight event that includes lighting of luminaria along the route, commemorating individual people who have battled cancer, or lost their lives to the disease.

Luzod knows Larchmont area residents are a connected and active crowd, but she has yet to really tap into the community and hopes cancer survivors and their friends and families will join her for the breakfast to brainstorm and organize the Relay for Life.
