Councilmember Tom LaBonge and representatives of the LADOT will gather to discuss two proposed engineering changes designed to address the rash of accidents at Rossmore and Clinton. The meeting takes place tonight at Christ the King School, 617 North Arden Boulevard at 7pm.
The Council Office and LADOT have investigated the causes of accidents along this stretch of Rossmore. The main issue is the quick bottleneck that occurs when vehicles going north or south on Rossmore attempt to make left turns at Clinton. Accidents result from three types of motorist mistakes:
- vehicles forcing a turn
- vehicles behind the vehicles attempting to turn maneuvering into moving cars
- vehicles avoiding the cars turning and hitting other cars
The following two proposals will be discussed Tuesday night.
LADOT would add a turn pocket on Rossmore at Clinton, to move cars out of the through lanes into the turn pockets, and allow the vehicles more time to comfortably make a safe turn. This would only require re-striping of the intersection and would not result in losing a lane of traffic. This is the recommended change by the Department of Transportation. A drawing of what the new intersection would look like can be viewed below.
LADOT would place signs restricting left turns for vehicles on Rossmore turning onto Clinton. This restriction could be during peak hours, day hours, all hours. No specific time has been decided upon.
All interested community members are invited to attend the meeting. Representatives of the Council Office and LADOT will benefit from your input.
