Roaring Nights at the LA Zoo Offer Wildlife and Music

Another great summer-in-the-city nighttime opportunity – explore the LA Zoo after dark. A private party of sorts with just you, your friends, a couple of live bands, food and drinks, and dozens of wild animals, behind bars of course.

The Los Angeles Zoo event will run two more Thursday nights – July 18th and July 25th, from 7 – 10pm. In addition to observing the wildlife after dark (when some species are much more active), visitors also can drop in on some standup comedians entertaining in the Petting Zoo, purchase grub from a bevy of food trucks, and order drinks from the full bar. Reservations are suggested, but some tickets are sold at the door also. No children allowed, it’s an 18 and up event, and tickets are $15 for zoo members and $18 for non-members.

Reports from the first event this past week, were very positive, with one reviewer Megan Dunham of LA Music Blog sharing:

“I strolled in among a pretty young and fashionable crowd — impressive, zoo! Then again, I’m pushing 30 and my wardrobe consists mainly of clothes that I stole from ex-boyfriends, so maybe I’m easily dazzled. I got in line at the first beverage cart, one of many spread liberally throughout the open areas of the zoo. Plenty of people milled around, but not so many as to make the wait for my rum & coke uncomfortable. The bartenders were notably friendly and enthusiastic, and I started to notice a faint air of mischievous conspiracy among all in attendance, even those spending the evening at work. It was like we were all doing something naughty together, being at the zoo after dark. I was digging it.”

The Los Angeles County Bike Coalition will provide free bike valet for all of the Roaring Nights events. Biking to the Zoo is encouraged, and the Zoo is easily accessible by bike by way of the Los Angeles River bike path.
