The three greater Wilshire neighborhood associations folded into CD4 in the recent redistricting process feted Councilmembers Herb Wesson(CD10) and Tom LaBonge (CD4) at the Ebell Club on Wednesday April 11th, and thanked them for putting most of GWNC all in the same district for the first time.

The south-of-Wilshire neighborhoods, Fremont Place, Windsor Village and Wilshire Park, all had excellent working relationships with Councilman Herb Wesson, but were pleased to be united in CD4 together with the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council neighborhoods who they’ve worked alongside for years.

Also added back to CD 4 is the area west of Western that is south of Wilshire, east of Wilton, and north of Olympic  which includes Country Club Heights and a number of dense multi-family blocks.

“We were glad to get the votes together to make this happen,” said Wesson at the event. “I was the quarterback and Tom LaBonge was the receiver who helped unite your neighborhood.” Wesson also joked that, after taking so much negative flack on redistricting city-wide (not all neighborhoods were as happy with their new redistricting boundaries) it was a pleasure to come together and celebrate the newly defined CD4 that unifies the greater Wilshire neighborhoods. He then introduced Tom LaBonge as “one of the hardest working guys in the city of LA. If you open his trunk you’d find shovels, workboots and garbage bags…he’s always ready to haul out garbage” which garnered a huge laugh from the crowd.

Councilman LaBonge followed up with many thank you’s to citizens of the greater Larchmont area who had dedicated so much time and energy to making the neighborhood a better place, including: John Welborne, Jane Gilman, Carolyn Rasmay, Grover McKean, Hank Hilty, Jack Humphreville and the staffs of both council offices. The cocktail event was organized by Wilshire Park leader Lorna Hennington and the GWNC, and was held in the Ebell Club just prior to the monthly GWNC meeting.
