Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Irish_clover

Today is the day to wear green and toast the Irish!

Christians and Catholics around the round world are celebrating the feast of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland who brought Christianity  to Ireland.  The holiday is widely know for great revelry, eating and particularly, drinking thanks to the church for lifting the lenten restrictions on eating and drinking normally in place this time of year as Christians prepare for Easter. It’s also customary to wear shamrocks and/or green clothing or accessories (the “wearing of the green”). St Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish. So today’s the day to get some use out of that shamrock emoticon on your smart phone as you make plans to celebrate with friends this evening.

Fortunately, you don’t have to be Irish or Christian to celebrate the day!  Magee’s Kitchen at the Farmer’s Market will be serving their famous corned beef, cabbage and potatoes, with green beer and imported Irish beers on tap.  Glen the bagpiper will be strolling the aisles from 12:30-3:30pm & 6-8pm on the East Patio, and Jerry McClean returns with Irish folk music from 7-9pm on the West Patio. Molly Malone’s Irish Pub  offers live music for the over 21 crowd as well as Tom Bergin’s, both are long standing Los Angeles St. Paddy’s Day favorites and both are conveniently located on Fairfax Ave!

You can also check out Eater LA’s guide to St. Patrick’s Day which features Short Order, also on Fairfax, in the Farmer’s Market, offering a Stout beer float and White Russian made with Irish Whiskey. Nearby on Highland the  Mud Hen Tavern  is featuring a variety of Irish Whiskies as part of their regular Monday Night whiskey events happening in the month of March.

We invite you share your celebrations with us. Buzz us back and let us know your favorite St. Patty’s Day spot to celebrate. Bee Safe!
