LAPD Wilshire & Olympic Crime Wrap-Up

LAPD Wilshire Division reported there has been a rash of purse snatchings in the area of late. Purses which were easily within arms reach or slung over a back of a chair at a restaurant were stolen by quick-acting thieves in five incidents within one week.

Recent crimes reported in the Wilshire Division:

  • 7-22-15: 100 block of North Larchmont Blvd:  a suspect watched a citizen withdraw money from an ATM on Larchmont Blvd, then used the passcode to withdraw funds himself from the victim’s account once the victim left. Suspect arrested.
  • 7-25-15: 1200 block of S Plymout Blvd, 1:45 am: Suspects parked their black SUV next to 2 victims on street, exited the vehicle, confronted victims, knocked the victims down, kicked victims in the head causing them to lose consciousness, and fled.
  • Numerous incidents of burglary from motor vehicles throughout the division area: do not leave valuables within plain sight in a locked motor vehicle.

In the Olympic Division, property crime continues be prevalent in the community. However, SLO Joe Pelayo, repsonsible for the Larchmont area, is pleased to report that within the last seven weeks his area had the highest drop in crime in the division – from 21 percent down to 9 percent.

 Crimes reorted in the Olympic Division:

  • 7-17-15  Burglary- 600 block of South Van Ness ; property taken were tools and jewelry.  No evidence of forced entry.
  • 7-17-15  Theft- 5000 block of Maplewood; suspects removed mail from inside the location, possible key used to open mailbox.
  • 7-10-15 Burglary-4900 block of Elmwood; suspects entered location through a bedroom window by prying it open.  Home ransacked , no property taken.
  • 7-5-15 ARREST: Burglary Suspects-600 north Gower. Neighbors observed the suspect inside the home and called the police. All suspects were detained as they exited the home.  Three suspects were taken into custody and booked for Attempted Burglary.
  • 7-14-15  500 S Gramercy Place; suspects entered secured building by “buzzing” their way into the lobby.  Suspect then entered unlocked vehicle and removed property. Suspect also stoled another vehicle inside the same location. The victim left the car keys inside.

This next week, Tuesday August 4th is National Night Out in Los Angeles. The events are designed to bring communities together to “Rally against crime” and include music, booths and family-friendly fare. Events  will be hosted at Los Angeles High School, 4650 W Olympic Blvd (details below) 5-7pm  and at the LAPD Olympic Station at 1130 S. Vermont Ave., 6-9 pm (details for both, below.)
