You might know restaurateur Jean-Louis De Mori from the neighborhood – the St. Andrews Square resident and his family are familiar faces at the LA Tennis Club and within the St. James School Community. Or maybe you know De Mori and his business partner/Executive Chef Antonio Tommasi from one of their past restaurant success stories – Locanda Venetta on 3rd,  Ca’Brea on La Brea, Il Moro in West LA or Ca’ del Sole in Toluca Lake?

Let’s just say whether you know Jean-Louis or not…it’s time to get to know Maccheroni Republic, the new Downtown LA pasta concept from partners DeMori and Tommasi.  Located in the Broadway Theater District, Maccheroni Republic is one of those perfect finds – an Italian restaurant where the owners are engaging, the ambiance is authentic and the menu presents one delicious choice after another.

Jean-Louis described the Maccheroni Republic mission recently over a plate of Ravioli di Zucca (pumpkin ravioli with truffle cream sauce). ‘People should be able to find a high-quality plate of pasta for under $20. Our concept is to offer an affordable meal so people can make us a regular part of their dining-out experience,’ said De Mori.

In order to deliver on the balance between quality and price, the partners looked to Downtown where rents are still realistic. They found a 1,600 square foot space with a patio on Broadway. They renovated the property and have created this rustic, Italian osteria that’s already become a neighborhood favorite.

Having experienced Maccheroni Republic, a gravitational pull is operating on me. It pulls our family Downtown – whether we have Downtown plans outside of dinner or not. If you do want to connect your visit to something else you are doing Downtown, Maccheroni Republic is conveniently located near Walt Disney Concert Hall, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels and some of the downtown courthouses. Maybe we’ll see you there this weekend for dinner?

Park and then walk out of the parking structure heading west towards Broadway…Maccheroni Republic is at the end of the walkway on your right. Bring your parking ticket for validation. Parking security is present and very helpful!
