Windsor Square Annual Meeting Looks at Water

The Windsor Square Association (WSA) met on Tuesday, September 9th for their annual Block Captain Gathering, and amidst dinner and drinks, focused on water.

With a strong network of block captains on most of its seventy-two blocks, the WSA celebrates and educates once a year with an informational evening dinner.  Led by WSA President Larry Guzin, the event was hosted at the home of June and Paul Bilgore, with enormous koi entertaining the guests near the bar and the full moon reflected in their backyard pool.

WSA welcomed representatives from the LAPD Wilshire and Olympic Divisions, staff from Tom LaBonge’s Council office, members of FilmLA, representatives of local security companies, and the press. Fifty-two Block Captains and their significant others attended the feast, catered by the chef from La Luña, formerly of Larchmont Boulvard.

The speaker at this year’s gathering was Paul Bogatz, the Battalion 18 Coordinator for the Community Emergency Response Team, who spoke about emergency preparedness.  Bogatz emphasized the most important action is to store water –  in 55 gallon drums as well as gallon containers. Water will be essential for both family members and neighbors – none of us would want to have to ‘turn away’ a needy neighbor in a time of crisis.

One block of Lorraine in Windsor Square has 100% participation in storing significant amounts of potable water and the WSA is collecting names of people interested in working on the project together to keep costs down and participation up.

The Windsor Square emergency water program is a noble example of a neighborhood working together to prepare in case of disaster. Perhaps other neighborhood associations in the area will follow suit.

Editor’s Note: The Annual “Town Hall” Meeting is set for 7:00 p.m. on November 13th at The Ebell, and all Windsor Square residents are welcome to attend.
