Canopy Near Completion on the Wilshire/Western Metro Station

Wilshire Western Metro stop

A new canopy that has been under construction at the Wilshire/Western Metro station for some five years now, looks like it’s almost completed, with most of the temporary fencing removed and the corner looking better than ever.

The primary purpose of the steel and glass canopy is to protect both Metro riders and the escalators that move riders to and from the station below, and is part of the $1.6 million “plaza improvement” project for the corner. The design is similar to what will be installed at the new Purple Line stations under construction at Wilshire/La Brea and Wilshire/Fairfax stops, just west down the subway line.

Metro says complete construction should be done by October. The corner already looks infinitely better.
