Police Chase Causes Tuesday Commotion

A police chase through the Melrose and Citrus Square neighborhoods of the Greater Wilshire area brought a lot of commotion to the usually quiet residential zone late Tuesday afternoon.

According to a report by KTLA-TV, the incident began when Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over a stolen car near the intersection of North Mansfield Ave. and Clinton Street. But then the vehicle sped away again and apparently deliberately struck another sheriff’s vehicle (involved in a separate call) along Orange Drive, injuring a deputy.

As the pursuit continued, two suspects eventually fled the vehicle on the 100 block of N. Sycamore, and after a search along Sycamore, Orange Dr. and Mansfield Ave., the vehicle’s driver – later identified in a report at MyNewsLA.com as Melvin Williams – was taken into police custody and charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, grand theft auto and felony evading.
