SAG-AFTRA Signs on to 5757 Wilshire for 10 Year Lease

SAG-AFTRA-wilshireYou may have noticed the new logo and moniker heralding SAG-AFTRA at 5757 Wilshire Blvd. The building now houses the national offices of SAG-AFTRA, the union of 160,o0o film and television actors (as well as journalists and radio performers) worldwide.

Variety reported this week that SAG decided to stay put in the former “Museum Square” building after its merger with AFTRA in 2012, taking additional office space and floors to house their general offices, the new SAG Foundation offices and the SAG-AFTRA Credit Union offices. The lease to 2026 gave SAG-AFTRA naming rights also, booting “Museum Square” off the facade and replacing it with the newly minted (year old) SAG-AFTRA logo.

SAG-AFTRA-logo“It is a location that has served us well as a national headquarters over the years,” Executive David White told Variety in an April 16 story “It is centrally located for a significant percentage of our members, and there is a lot of exciting development in the area so it’s a good short- and long-term locale for us. Given our competitive lease arrangement, it was truly a no-brainer for us to stay here, particularly since we obtained the naming rights to the building at no additional cost.”

The sleek, white, double-winged building was designed by architects Walter Wurdeman and Welton Becket and was the tallest and largest privately owned building in Los Angeles when it opened in 1948. At the time it served as the western office of the Prudential Insurance Company.
