Carolyn Ramsay announced on Thursday that she is stepping down as Chief of Staff for L.A. City Councilmember Tom LaBonge at the end of the month to campaign full-time to succeed him.
Carolyn has worked for Councilmember LaBonge for more than a decade. Her community activism caught his attention when he was first running for office, leading him to choose her as an early member of his leadership team.
“Carolyn has been an indispensable leader in my office and in our community. She helped spearhead some of our most celebrated accomplishments in the district. With Carolyn’s leadership we’ve tested traffic mitigation solutions on our most congested streets, added 138 acres to Griffith Park, furthered the restoration of the Los Angeles River, significantly increased family recreation facilities, and collaborated with our schools to raise money to green campuses and the city around them. Carolyn helped create jobs and support business districts in Sherman Oaks, Larchmont, Toluca Lake and throughout the community,” said Councilmember Tom LaBonge. “I ran for office 12 years ago to be a champion for local neighborhoods and Carolyn has that same passion. She has my complete support to become our next Councilwoman.”
“My experience working with Councilmember LaBonge and leading the team he assembled has prepared me to continue his tradition of community focused service. I’m excited about jumping into this new phase of the campaign and building the grassroots support necessary to represent the community I have worked and lived in for the past 23 years,” said Carolyn Ramsay. “I’ll be an aggressive problem solver for our neighborhoods, listening to their concerns and working toward innovative solutions together. Like Councilmember LaBonge, I’ll prioritize the basics: fixing our streets and sidewalks, creating green space and parks, and encouraging small businesses and job growth.”
In addition to the support of L.A. Councilmember LaBonge, Ramsay is strongly supported by L.A. Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, L.A. Community College Trustee Mona Field, environmental activist and actor Ed Begley Jr., and community leaders from Council District #4 like Louis Alvarado, Patty Casado, Dwayne Gathers, Anne-Marie Johnson, Hans Johnson, Chris Laib, and Mich Menzer.
- The City of LA Municipal Election Primaries are scheduled for March 3, 2015, with the General Municipal Election to be held on May 19, 2015.
- Offices for the 2015 City of Los Angeles Municipal Elections include: Council Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 14; LAUSD Districts 1, 3, 5, and 7; and LACCD Seats 1, 3, 5, and 7
- There are limits on the amount of money a single person may contribute to City and LAUSD candidates. For the 2015 elections, the per-person limits are $700 for City Council candidates and $1,100 for LAUSD candidates.
