Do you know a cancer survivor, or someone currently fighting the disease? Or someone who lost their life to cancer? The American Cancer Society will be hosting a “Relay for Life” event at John Burroughs Middle School on June 9th and wants to hear from you.
Relay for Life is an overnight relay-style event where teams of people camp out and members of each team take turns walking and running around the track for the 24 hour period. Because it’s a relay, no one is required to be there the entire time, but the food, games, glowing luminarias, and family activities provide a safe and interactive environment keeps participants engaged and rewarded. The Relay event takes place in towns and cities across the nation to “celebrate” those fighting the disease, to “remember” those lost to the disease and to “fight back” raising awareness and funding for cancer research.
The Relay is also looking for cancer survivors in our community who can be honored the morning of June 9th in the “Survivor Lap.”
