The 900 block of South Windsor Blvd was closed off on Sunday, November 8th for a community gathering hosted by the Windsor Village Association. Over 200 people from the community gathered on the street to chat with one another, try some “Bollywood” dancing and let their children roam on the wide pedestrian-friendly street that was filled with late afternoon sun.
Councilman David Ryu (CD4) floated through the crowd, talking with residents about their community, as did Senior Lead Officer Hebel Rodriguez, who stayed for the entire event to answer questions and connect with the community.
The Bauman family hosted a wine tasting and garden labyrinth in their backyard, while children lined up by the dozen for face painting, henna tattoos and a bounce house. Local dogs performed for the Dog Show, while pies baked by residents were tasted and voted on. The winning pie, a Traditional Canadian Prairie Pie was a recipe that resident Holly Holyk’s mother has baked for the past 75 years for her husband on his birthday.
As DJ spun tunes, people lined up for free tacos, and the daring took part in a Bollywood dance lesson that brought a smile to many faces in the crowd.
The Block Party was organized by Windsor Village volunteers and the Windsor Village Association. The committee was spearheaded by WVA Board member Julie Stromberg and included Vera Borges, Janvie Cason, Sabine Demain, Diane Dicksteen, Dennee Frey, Holly Holyk, Sheila McCoy, Nathalie Rosen, John Schilling, Amy Shaffer, and Mark Walker.
