Shepard Fairey Paints La Brea Proud

It’s a La Brea renaissance – with all the great spaces opening up on our once-drab, six-lane-wide, auto-centric La  Brea Ave, it truly does seem like the private sector is making a SoHo West right here on the eastern edge of Hancock Park. Not to mention Shepard Fairey, the artist best known for his Obama posters, has been on location this past couple of weeks with his paintbrush creating a bright palette of wall art.

LaBrea is coming to life and it’s going to be a fun winter exploring its new offerings:  Sycamore Kitchen, a bakery cafe from the chefs at Hatfield’s on Melrose; a flagship store from Feel Mor, the menswear retailer of French, Japanese and vintage threads; and loads of creative space. Underground parking, and hopefully a new cross-walk mid-block to the east side of La Brea, should make the area an exciting new walking district – all so close to home!

LA Weekly has a great piece about Fairey producing the legit mural on a building he used to tag illegally.
