Walk the Art Walk – Talk the Art Talk

Saturday is the FREE Miracle Mile Artwalk and Studio Tour – an opportunity to explore the growing number of galleries, museums, artist studios and installations that now populate the Wilshire, LaBrea and Beverly boulevards, making it one of  the biggest art communities west of the Mississippi. The March 3rd event, which should have clear warm temperatures for tromping around, will take place from 2pm – 10 pm. Participating sites will fly the MMAW banner for easy navigation between locations, and maps showing the venues (below) will be widely available.

Now that the MMAW is no longer under the umbrella of the restrictive guidelines of LA City Council funds, it has become an independent entity, raised funds and expanded programming.  On Saturday the MMAW will feature a pop-up “Community Marketplace” at the hip and happening La Brea complex at La Brea and 1st St. where cottage industry types will be selling their goods, creations and consumables in a one day market in the new space. There will be live art happening at the Berlin Wall Monument (across the street from LACMA) and music and food trucks along the route. For those going late, an after-party (8-10pm) at La Brea will showcase more art, music, drink and food.

While many still think of Wilshire, La Brea and Beverly boulevards merely as really bumpy and busy thoroughfares, there is actually a vibrant art scene lining these streets of ours, and Saturday is the day to explore them on foot.
