If your snail mailbox is like mine, it’s overflowing with political mail on Measure S, the ballot initiative that proponents say will save our neighborhoods and opponents charge will cost jobs, hurt the local economy and prevent the city from building much needed housing for the homeless. Both sides agree the City’s planning process is broken…but they disagree on whether Measure S the right solution.

This is an important city-wide issue that has the potential to affect every neighborhood in the city. So, as part of their mission to educate and engage their respective communities, the Mid City West Community Council and Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council are hosting a moderated public forum to explore Measure S on Tuesday, February 28th from 7:30 – 9:00 pm at the offices of the National Council of Jewish Women of Los Angeles at 543 N Fairfax Ave., where the MCWCC meets monthly.

The discussion will be moderated by Greg Goldin, curator at the A+D Museum, and author of the critically acclaimed book Never Built Los Angeles. From 1999 to 2012, Goldin was the architecture critic at Los Angeles Magazine, and he lives in the Miracle Mile neighborhood.

Windsor Square resident Jack Humphreville will represent the Yes on S perspective at the forum. Humphreville writes the LA Watchdog column for CityWatch and serves on the board of the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council. He is also the president of the DWP Advocacy Committee,  the Ratepayer Advocate for the GWNC, and the publisher of the Recycler.

Luke Klipp will present the No on S position. Klipp is a Budget Analyst for Los Angeles Metro. Before that, he worked as a State Affairs Specialist for AIDS Project Los Angeles, He has  worked in San Francisco City Hall as both a senior policy analyst for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors Office of the Budget, a Legislative Analyst, and as a legislative aide to a former member of the Board of Supervisors.

The representatives supporting and opposing the measure will be given time to present their positions, participate in a moderated discussion, and then take submitted questions from the public. The event is free and all are welcome to attend.
