The Windsor Square corners of 1st Street and Van Ness Avenue were photographed in the 1932-33 by Anton Wagner, a German graduate student who documented Los Angeles during the Depression. The archive of Wagner’s 400 plus photos is now available online at the Digital Library of the California Historical Society.
Searching through, we found two photos of Windsor Square. One of the northwest corner of 1st Street and Van Ness Avenue and one of the northeast corner of the same intersection. So naturally, we had to run out and photograph them today to see what had changed. Below are Wagner’s images and ours. What do you think?
thanks Patricia….interesting comparison, etc.
