Does your neighborhood public school or 501(c)(3) non-profit organization have a community improvement project to fund? Every year, our local Neighborhood Councils make money for beautification and other kinds of projects available to local schools and non-profits through the City’s Neighborhood Purpose Grant program. The number and amount of grants differ from NC to NC, depending on their local budgeting, but both of our local groups – the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council and the Mid-City West Community Council – have announced that grants will be available in their areas this year.
First, at its February meeting, the GWNC announced that it will award up to two Neighborhood Purpose Grants this year, with a maximum award of $1,000 each. Applications are due on Friday, March 23, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. (PST). Applicant requirements are available at http://greaterwilshire.org/2018/02/14/2018-neighborhood-purposes-grants/. The finalists will be voted on at the GWNC April 2018 Board meeting. See the link above for further information and application forms, or contact [email protected].
Meanwhile, the Mid City West Community Council has budgeted a total of $3,000 for grant funding in its area, and will award three $1,000 grants to local schools or non-profits. The MCWCC application deadline is March 5, and “all applications which seek to help our community will be considered.”  Go to http://www.midcitywest.org/committees/ad-hoc-committees/neighborhood-purpose-grants-ad-hoc-committee/ to download application materials and apply.
In general, both NCs will consider applications for physical, cultural, civic, or educational projects, which benefit the community as widely as possible. Projects should also have a realistic budget and a plan for timely completion. For more information, and the requirements specific to each NC, see the links above.
