City Council District 4 Representative David Ryu attended a gathering hosted by the Wilshire Homeowners’ Alliance last night, giving him the opportunity to meet, greet and chat casually with leaders of 12 area neighborhood associations.
The Wilshire Homeowners’ Alliance (WHA), a pre-cursor to groups such as the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council, was formed in 1978 to represent area residents in negotiations with developers and the city of Los Angeles. Â The group is still active, with members from 12 Wilshire-area neighborhoods, including Brookside, Citrus Square, Fremont Place, Hancock Park, La Brea-Hancock, Larchmont Village, Ridgewood-Wilton, St. Andrews Square, Sycamore Square, Wilshire Park, Windsor Square and Windsor Village. Â About 60 presidents and board members of those associations attended last night’s event.
Mr. Ryu, who was elected earlier this year to replace longtime City Council Member Tom La Bonge,  was introduced by WHA President John Welborne and Secretary John Gresham. In his opening remarks, Ryu stressed his dedication to our district’s neighborhoods and their grass roots concerns.  “I ran (my campaign) on neighborhoods,” he said, “and I’m going to continue working on neighborhoods.”  He said “If I do my job right, you won’t call me a politician, you’ll call me a public servant.”
Ryu also introduced several members of his new staff, including Chief of staff Sarah Dussault, Field Deputies Nikki Ezhari and Catherine Landers, and Chief of Land Use Planning Renee Weitzer. Â But most of the evening was spent in more casual conversations with the attendees, who are concerned about issues such as development, densification, teardowns in historic neighborhoods and mansionization.
To collect even more input from area residents, Mr. Ryu’s office has launched a new survey seeking input from all constituents of CD4.  You can find and complete the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/657ZQJ5
