Conserve Gas Today

SoCalGas asks consumers to conserve and reduce gas usage today

SoCalGas has issued an advisory, asking customers to help conserve gas today in light of the chilly winter temperatures.

“Every winter the demand for natural gas increases as we heat our homes and businesses. This winter, we are facing limited availability of natural gas locally.  That’s why we are asking all Southern Californians to work together to help conserve natural gas on certain days,” according to the advisory message.

A spokesperson at SoCalGas told the Buzz that the supply of gas is down because of the moratorium on injections at Aliso Canyon, and demand is up because it’s been colder than usual in the Los Angeles region over the last several days.  The lower-than-usual temperatures are due to two arctic blasts in the past week, which have set dozens of record lows across the Midwest and Plains. But today’s forecast for LA is a reasonably warm high temp of 68, with a wind advisory, which makes it feel colder…but warmer days are forecast for later this week.

You can help by lowering your thermostat to 68 degrees, washing laundry on cold and avoid using major gas appliances, such as your heater or gas fireplace, if possible. If you’re out all day, consider turning off your heater. Maybe even use your microwave instead of your oven tonight. Or you can use your wood burning fireplace. There’s no burn restriction for today.

“Small things really make a difference if we all do it together,” SoCalGas advised the Buzz, especially while we have this extra chilly weather.
