Some of the Wilshire Crest parents and volunteers celebrating Read Across America Day yesterday at Wilshrie Crest Elementary School.

Every year, on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, schools all over the U.S. celebrate “Read Across America Day,” at which the beloved children’s author is celebrated and volunteers read Dr. Seuss books to students.  Yesterday was the big day for 2017, and teachers, students, parents and community volunteers (including both this reporter and several retired staff members who returned for the event) all got into the spirit at Wilshire Crest Elementary School.  The festivities were organized by school parents and the Cat in the Hat (a.k.a. Extended Transitional Kindergarten teacher Eileen Washington).
