East of June Restaurant Gets Alcohol Sales Approval But Not Late Hours

East of June restaurant proposed at 6063-6065 Melrose Avenue gets approval for alcohol sales and operation from 7 am to 11 pm

Last month, the  City of LA Planning Department approved a Conditional Use Permit for a proposed restaurant, East of June, at 6063-6065 Melrose Avenue…but restricted the operating hours to 7 am – 11 pm, instead of 7 am to 2 am as requested by the applicant. In addition, the hours of operation of the proposed outdoor patio will be limited to 10pm and speakers for amplified music are prohibited.

Residents of Hancock Park Terrace condominiums located accross the street from the former automotive service shop opposed the late night hours and asked the City at a hearing on the matter last February to require the applicant to conform to operating hours of all the other restaurants on the street.

“The City struck a good compromise,” said Kelly Martin, a homeowner at Hancock Park Terrace, who spoke against the late hours and the attendant noise at the hearing, noting that every other restaurant on Melrose closes at 11, and asking why should this one be open until 2am.

“Councilmember David Ryu’s office was great, we really appreciated their support which was very influential in the final determination,” said Martin.

All the conditions for the proposed restaurant explained in the letter of determination, including restrictions on dancing and live entertainment.
