If you’re like our curious bees here at the Buzz, you may have wondered, when driving down Crenshaw Blvd. at various times in the last couple of weeks, why there are still (or again) fire trucks and crews of firefighters in full gear at the house at 838 S. Crenshaw, where a major fire gutted the empty building and injured two firefighters on November 18.
Was there another fire, either at this building or the one next door?
The short answer is no – there have not been any further fires at the location. A call to the Los Angeles Fire Department yesterday confirmed there have been no new emergency calls at the address. Â
So why the continued presence of firefighters at the property? The LAFD representative we spoke with said it’s quite common, after a major fire, for firefighters to study the details of the event afterward (sort of like football players watching game films and reviewing plays after a big game). Â They review what happened both in talks at the firehouse and at the fire scene, to look at the damage and discuss how the fire progressed and how it was fought. Â The reviews help the firefighters – both veterans and trainees – gain a greater understanding of the event, and help them plan for fighting future fires.
And why do they come for these reviews with all their trucks, full gear and in complete fire dress? Â So they can be ready to jump – without having to return to the firehouse – if a new call should come in while they’re out and about.
So if you see a firefighting crew at the site of a recent fire, don’t worry — all is well and our dedicated local firefighters are just doing their jobs and learning from their experiences so they can be even better prepared in the future.
