Spring is kitten and puppy season, so it’s a popular time to adopt a new pet. But did you know that when you adopt a pet from any of the six LA Animal Services shelters in the City of Los Angeles, the Southern California Veterinarian Medical Association (SCVMA) provides a voucher for free veterinary care? For one week after the adoption date, you can take your new pet to a local participating SCVMA member veterinarian for a free exam.
In addition, the SCVMA has also started a 1-800 call center to assist people outside of normal business hours to find a veterinarian and schedule the free examination.
“These vouchers give adopters a way to meet the veterinarian and ask questions during the wellness exam to see if that veterinarian is right for your new family member,” said Brenda Barnette, general manager of LA Animal Services.
All pets adopted from LA Animal Services are vaccinated, microchipped and spay/neutered before they go home.
