There are some important street improvements taking place in the greater Hancock Park area right now.  The following streets are currently being resurfaced:
- 3rd Street between La Brea and Highland
- Rossmore between 3rd Street and Wilshire
- Vermont between 3rd Street and Wilshire
Over the past two weeks, the Bureau of Street Services has gone through the process of cold milling the street surface – where they use cold planers to removes about 2-3 inches of asphalt. This leaves a rough but even road surface that can be immediately opened to traffic. Late this week 3rd Street was repaved and striping will complete the project in the next few days. Rossmore is still in the messy cold mined phase.
This work is being paid for out of the 2012-2013 Budget.
Starting in July, a new City Budget makes way for even further improvement with the following streets scheduled for repair:
- Vine Street between Santa Monica and Melrose
- Santa Monica between Vine Street and Seward
- Olympic between Crenshaw and Rimpau
- 3rd Street in phases:
- La Brea to Martel/Hauser
- Martel/Hauser to Fairfax
- Western to Irving
- Rossmore to Highland
It was only a little over a month ago that the LA Times compiled a visual report using available street inspection data in 114 neighborhoods and reported that over half of the streets in the greater Hancock Park area rated an ‘F’ grade.

What a difference a couple of months make.
I doubt the city would have to repave streets every several years if they left and maintained the old concrete surfaces which is much more durable.
