Hancock Park residents Linda and Gerry Sanoff’s garden was recently featured in the Los Angeles Times’ series on  garden makeovers.

Like many neighbors, the Sanoff’s transformed their June street garden two years ago because they wanted a more sustainable, earth-friendly and less expensive to maintain garden.

“The transformation was all about water,” Linda Sanoff told the Times. “It’s a precious resource. We would have done this even without the rebate because it was the right thing to do.”

After reading a few stories by LA Times writer Lisa Boone, Gerry Sanoff, a tv writer, told his wife Linda to contact the reporter and share the story of their garden.

“It was my obsessiveness (who me?) with keeping a pictorial timeline that piqued the writers’ interest,” Linda Sanoff told the Buzz.

Sanoff’s thorough photo documentation of the garden transformation process made it much easier to tell the story.  As a result, the article in the Times, illustrated with Linda Sanoff’s photos, is instructive and inspiring to anyone considering removing their turf lawn to create a water-wise garden that works with their historic home and our current climate.

The Sanoffs are thrilled with the result and report their new  garden is easier to maintain than they thought. Visit the LA Times online to read more about the Sanoff’s garden.
