This year, Christmas and New Year’s fall on the weekend which means the holidays are officially observed on the following Mondays, December 26th & January 2 respectively.  As a result, trash collection services in the City of Los Angeles will postponed by one calendar day according to LA Sanitation Department.  For most Buzz readers, this means trash will be collected on Saturday instead of our usual Friday collection day. The Friday collection will occur on Saturday for those two holiday weeks only.
The Sanitation department offers the following suggestions about properly disposing of our extra holiday waste:
Christmas Tree Recycling: LA Sanitation has curbside collection for Christmas trees. If your Christmas tree is too big to cut and place inside the green waste bin, simply place the tree next to your green waste bin on collection day. Drop-off locations are available as well.
Recycling or holiday items: Flattened wrapping paper, cards, and cardboard boxes can all go in the recycling bin. Bows, ribbons, and tinsel cannot be recycled. Wreaths and garland can be placed in the green bin after you’ve removed the decorations. If you’ve received new electronics for the holidays, the old ones can be dropped off at a SAFE Center for recycling.
Save Our Sewers: Â Fats, oils, and grease solidify, clogging drains and sewer pipes, even if you run hot water. Instead, please seal it in a jar and toss it in the trash.
