There’s a lot happening this week, with a number of important special events in these so-called lazy days of summer.
Taste of Farmers Market
Tuesday night, just in time to get you out of cooking during the heatwave forecast for this week, is the 10th annual Taste of Farmers Market from 5-9 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to check out all the gourmet delights and good eats at the Original Farmers Market at Fairfax and Third.  The ticketed event offers more than 50 tastes and samplings from the Market’s many restaurants and grocers—and includes free parking and a special 10thanniversary souvenir. A portion of the proceeds benefit the First-In Fire Foundation , and representatives from Fire Station 61 will be serving their famous Firehouse Chili. Fire Station 58 will be serving up its famous vegetarian chili.
“We are delighted to be the non-profit partner of the Farmers Market for this wonderful community event,” said Lyn Cohen, founder of the First-In Fire Foundation.
The Buzz caught up with Cohen as she was helping deliver groceries donated by merchants from the Original Farmers Market to the fire stations so they could start cooking today or early tomorrow. They are planning to serve “tastes” to about 700 people who are expected to participate in the event. Cohen explained that Fire Station 61, our local first responder, participates every year. This year Fire Station 58, located on Robertson, south of Pico, will be cooking chili (last year it was made by Fire Station 29, in honor of its centennial).
“There’s a contest between the stations as to who is going to cook with meat and who is going to the vegetarian version,” said Cohen. “I know I’ll be tasting both!”

Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council Land Use Committee
Also on Tuesday evening is the Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council’s Land Use Committee meeting at Marlborough School, at 6:30 pm. We’re planning to grab an early dinner at the Farmers Market and then head over to the meeting, where the committee is expected to review several new land use development projects, according to its posted agenda.
Purple Line Transit Neighborhood Plan EIR Scoping Meeting
Next, on Thursday, is the EIR Scoping meeting for the Purple Line Transit Neighborhood Plan and associated updates to the Los Angeles Municipal Code. This is a great opportunity to learn about the scope of work that will be analyzed in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and give your input at the meeting. The Buzz has been following this process, which was started by the LA City Planning Department in August 2016. A similar plan for areas near Metro’s Exposition Line was recently approved by the City Council’s Planning and Land Use Management Committee.

LVNA Block Party
Finally, the  Larchmont Village Neighborhood Association invites residents to celebrate their neighborhood on Saturday, July 28, from 1-5 p.m. on North Bronson Avenue, between Rosewood and Clinton Street.
