King Tut Guardian at Original Farmers Market Through September

A super-sized replica of the King Tut Guardian is now on display at the Original Farmers Market through September 27, 2018.

The Original Farmers Market in Los Angeles is touting its biggest visitor in history – a 32-foot tall, 2-ton King Tut Guardian statue, a supersized replica of the original artifact on display at the California Science Center exhibition KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh.

When we stopped by over the weekend, visitors were buzzing around the statue wondering which movie it was promoting. It’s not exactly promoting a movie, but it is movie-related. The guardian is on display as part of the festivities for Metropolitan Fashion Week, starting on September 27, when the trolley tracks transform into a runway featuring the work of costume and fashion designers, and will showcase one masterpiece gown or costume inspired by the King Tut exhibit.

The giant-sized guardian was assembled last week on site at the Farmers Market. Once complete, Miss California USA Kelley Johnson helped coronate the king and welcomed more than 150 Hancock Park Elementary students to watch the statue being built.  Below is a time lapse video of the installation that Farmers Market shared with the Buzz.

KING TUT: Treasures of the Golden Pharaoh contains the largest assembly of artifacts and gold from the boy king’s tomb ever on public display outside of Egypt, and the latest findings science has revealed about King Tut’s life and death. The exhibition is presented by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, IMG and the California Science Center. For more information, see www.californiasciencecenter.org.
