Last March, the Buzz reported that tennis great Roger Federer shot a Mercedes Benz commercial at the Los Angeles Tennis Club. The commercial is out now, and it’s pretty funny.

The two-minute commercial, recently posted on YouTube, is a mini-documentary parody of the Tennis Channel show “Legends of the Game,” and is hosted by CBS and Tennis Channel sports broadcaster Bill Macatee.

In the spot, the Zelig-like Federer appears to be timeless, with a tennis career that spans decades from “Golden Age of Tennis” in the early 20th Century to a “bad boy era” in the 1970s (looking like John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors), and a colorful Andre Agassi phase in the 1990s. Tennis legend Rod Laver gives a cameo appearance, commenting on what it was like to play against the legendary Federer.

The commercial has already gained a bit of media attention.  Rolling Stone noted that Federer, “the normally cool, calm and collected tennis god does let his guard down a little” in the ad.  And according to the website Autoevolution:

Titled “Roger Federer and the SL. Timeless Legends,” the 2-minute ad is as weird and funny as they get. The sportsman and the [Mercedes] SL are described as being “two rare performers whose greatness is undisputed.” And as for the ad itself, Mercedes-Benz tells us to expect a “video that’s unlike anything you’ve seen before.”  Yup, that weird. Press play and you’ll understand why.

LATC members who were there during filming said Federer was a great sport, posing for photos and signing autographs. Kind of cool seeing the timeless Los Angeles Tennis Club too.
