Landis Launches Custom Stationery Line

Landis Gifts and Stationery launches custom stationery designed in-house

Larchmont’s paper maven, Edie Frère of Landis Gifts and Stationery, has launched a custom line of stationery designed and printed in-house, which is infinitely customizable to suit customers’ whims. Long known as the local source for personalized stationery, invitations and holiday cards, Landis owner Frére came up with the idea when she realized she had a talented graphic designer on her sales team.

Ricky Mallory joined Landis about a year ago. He’d been working as a graphic designer but decided he wanted something different; something more flexible that would also allow him to work on his own paintings and time to earn a teaching credential.  Mallory began creating illustrations for invitations and other custom services Landis offered and the stationery line grew from there.

“It just seemed silly to waste this wonderful talent, ” said Frére. “We have some quiet time when the wedding and party season slows down and everyone loves Ricky’s work, so I thought, “why not create something really personalized that we create right here for our customers?””

There’s a display in the store where customers can see all the design options, as well as a shop on Etsy.com.  Once a design is selected, it is printed in house and packaged up within a couple of hours for local pick ups or shipped out with one or two days for Etsy.com customers.  Quantities can be as small as 10 notes so it’s fairly inexpensive, just $15 for 10 cards with unlined envelopes; lined envelopes are an extra $15.

“We have customers come in and just want 10 cards for a hostess gift they need that day.” said Frére.

Frére features work of other artists as well as Mallory and is always up for project that highlights the work of talented local artists and builds community. She was brainstorming about a possible art show when we visited her last weekend.

“I love doing what nobody else does and offering something unique to our neighborhood,” Frére told us. We agree, it’s what we love about Larchmont!

The llama is the most popular design with customers.
Need a flamingo on their cell phone or is a Martini more your style? All the stationery designs can be customized and personalized.
