The holiday season is quickly swinging into full gear, and many local organizations are planning – and starting to seek donations for – charitable events.  First in line this year is LAPD’s Olympic Division, which is now soliciting donations for its 4th annual Operation Shoes from Santa event.
The big event will take place on Thursday December 10, 2015 at the Olympic Community Police Station (1130 S. Vermont). More than 1,000 pairs of shoes will be donated to underprivileged children on that day, and there will be real snow for the children to play in, toys, hot cocoa and Christmas treats, Santa’s workshop, and of course Santa.
According to a community letter from LAPD Senior Lead Officer Eric Mollinedo, “the event has been a tremendous success in the past due to the generous donations by community members and police officers.” Â This year, they are once again seeking donations of new shoes for school aged children. Â Shoes must be received by December 1st, so they can be appropriately matched with a needy child. You can drop off shoe donations at the Olympic Station, or contact Officer Mollinedo at (213) 793-0785, or your senior lead officer, to schedule a pick up.
