People often complain about the frequency with which they receive parking tickets in our area, and according to new research and a story by NBC4-TV‘s investigative reporting team, those complaints may be justified.  An “analysis of more than 9 million parking tickets written since 2012 by Los Angeles Parking Enforcement officers” shows that among the top 100 locations for most parking tickets issued, the 100 and 200 blocks of N. Larchmont Boulevard take two of the top five spots.  Nearly 20,000 tickets were written on the 100 block of N. Larchmont during the last four years, and approximately 13,500 on the 200 block.

(Also in our general area, the 100 block of S. La Brea took the #7 spot, with nearly 13,000 tickets issued.)

Overall, according to the report:

The I-Team discovered that of the nearly 361,00 blocks in Los Angeles, nearly one out of five parking tickets are handed out on just 500 blocks. That’s one-tenth of one percent of city streets.

“Low hanging fruit. It’s easy, it’s cost effective,” explained Jay Carsman, LA’s Parking Systems Coordinator for 23 years.

According to the story, the City of Los Angeles made more than $150 million from parking fines last year, most of them for violations of “no parking” rules on street cleaning days, and expired parking meters.

Other ticket hotspots on NBC4’s list include San Vicente Blvd. in Brentwood, and Washington Blvd. in Venice, near the beach.  The whole general Hollywood area is also heavy with citations, and was named one of the “Dirty Dozen” most heavily-ticketed areas in the city.
