Larchmont Parking Garage Resurfacing and Tree Trimming Coming

Larchmont Village Plaza parking garage will be resurfaced starting Monday, January 8; Boulevard trees will be trimmed later this month.

The Larchmont Village Plaza parking garage is scheduled for resurfacing starting next Monday, January 8 according to Heather Duffy Boylston, Co-Executive Director of the Larchmont Business Improvement District. She also told the Buzz, the trees on the boulevard will be trimmed later this month too.

The parking garage project will take approximately four weeks but only the top level will be closed while it’s being resurfaced, the rest of the garage will be open during the work according to a project memo shared with the Buzz.  So look for construction monitors and cones starting Monday if you are planning to park in the Larchmont Village Plaza garage.

Later this month, the Larchmont BID will be trimming trees along Larchmont Boulevard as part of the annual maintenance of the street trees paid for the by BID which is funded by assessments to the property owners and often passed along to the businesses and other commercial tenants on the street.

The trimming helps keep the city-owned trees and sidewalks neat by managing the tree canopy and the root spread of the now famously invasive Ficus trees. Though much maligned for their aggressive roots, the trees provide a shade canopy that would is sorely missed when one is removed. Fear not, there is no plan to remove any trees at this time, according to Duffy Boylston. Unfortunately, there’s also no word on replacing the tree near Gorin Hat Shop at 141 N Larchmont that was removed last April. The tree was removed by city workers who inspected and determined it was diseased. The removal came as a surprise to everyone.
