Larchmont Residents Honor Beloved Mail Carrier Carl Mitchell Upon his Retirement

Larchmont business people and residents celebrate the retirement of their beloved mail carrier, Carl Mitchell, who served the street and surrounding neighborhood for 39 years.

Ever since he announced his intention to retire a few months ago, customers along Carl Mitchell’s mail route have been celebrating their beloved mail carrier. Mitchell has served the North Larchmont route and surrounding streets since 1980, according to a recent story in the Larchmont Chronicle honoring Mitchell. He started at the US Post office in 1975, as a temporary employee sorting holiday mail. Folks at the post office liked him, and Mitchell was hired as a full-time employee on July 7, 1977 – so it’s fitting that July 3, 2019 was Carl’s last official day.

While we didn’t get to spent as much time with Carl as our other neighbors along his route, we certainly got to see how much Carl is loved when we attended two of his retirement parties.  We hope the photos give some sense of Carl’s perennially smiling nature. Carl promised to come by and visit the neighborhood. We might even see him on the small screen, too, as there’s a rumor that Carl was invited to a casting call for a television show looking for a mailman! We hope that  Nick Shriner, actor and waiter at Café Gratitude, who is working a video of all the festivities, will share that with us so we can share it with you too!

Congratulations to Carl and thanks!
