Dozens of residents gathered yesterday evening at the corner of Larchmont and Beverly Blvds. for a vigil to protest the appointment of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Larchmont vigil was one of several in the city, with other locations including Santa Monica, Echo Park and downtown LA. They were among almost 200 vigils organized around the country to protest Kavanaugh’s appointment.
The organizers gathered for a moment of silence for individuals who have been sexually abused. Judy Vaughn, founder of Alexandria House, spoke to the group on behalf of the homeless women and children her organizations helps out of homelessness. Vaugh said many of them are abused and deserve protection.
The protest was organized by Windsor Square residents via email.
“Vigils are important because they are an opportunity for us to use our voices, to send a powerful, collective message,” wrote organizer Jennifer Levine.
Dozens of residents showed up for the protest, which was organized earlier in the day. Drivers tooted horns and yelled out supportive words to the protestors, who covered both sides of the intersection.
