Like many of us, Larchmont Village resident Lynda Keeler loves to walk around her neighborhood and the larger city. And also like a great many of us these days, she uses a cell phone app (in her case, Map My Walk) to trace the routes she perambulates.

Unlike most of us, however, Keeler is a painter…and she uses the maps of her walks, along with photos and overhead views from Google Earth, to create bold, bright, abstract paintings based on her travels.  “I try to capture the sense of walking or driving by something, and seeing it out of the corner of your eye,” she told the Buzz yesterday.

Keeler says she has been painting for most of her life, and has also always loved maps.  “I grew up with maps on my wall instead of [posters of] boy bands,” she said.  At first, she says, her paintings depicted more realistic landscapes, but about three years ago, her interests in painting and maps merged, and her new abstracts were born.

Keeler has shown her works in a number of group shows, including one at the George Billis Gallery, on La Cienega, in 2017.  She also had a one-woman show in Palm Springs last year.  This weekend, art lovers will have yet another chance to view Keeler’s paintings at The Other Art Fair, an emerging artists showcase with outposts around the world, curated by online dealer Saatchi Art.  The L.A. version of the show, which will feature works by 100 different artists, will be held this Friday through Sunday, March 16-18, at The Majestic Downtown, 650 S. Spring St., 90014.  Tickets to the event are normally $8-$30, depending on purchase date, show day, and entry time… but Keeler has arranged a special free ticket offer for Larchmont Buzz readers.  Just enter code LarchmontBuzz when ordering tickets at http://la.theotherartfair.com/comp

You’ll find Keeler and her paintings in booth 72 on the Mezzanine level.  You can also preview more of her works on her website at http://www.lyndakeeler.com/
