You may have noticed the sandwich boards at Kreation Juice when you are walking by and wondered, “who did that?”
We stopped in Kreation and learned the artist is an employee, Daniel, who goes by seter86 on Instragram. He’s been working at Kreation for about year, doing production and smoothies. When he has time at work, he creates the paintings for the sandwich boards and other signage in the store using liquid markers made especially for blackboards.
The medium is very unforgiving, explains Daniel, saying “it’s a bit tricky, if you make a mistake you have to wash it off and start all over.” Â Sadly, each painting has to be erased to create a new one…but they live on virtually in digital images.
Daniel has learned to use the black background as another color element rather than simply applying color to the black surface. He is completely self-taught; reading everything he can and “making mistakes,” he said is the best way to learn.
Daniel came to LA from Spain via London more than a year ago. He started drawing as a kid but has lately become focused on painting. His encyclopedic knowledge of modern art inspires his own art, which often has a message not unlike his favorite painter, Pablo Picasso, whose influence can be seen in his latest post, “El Cenegral” on Instagram.
