We are happy to report that Le Petit Greek restaurant, at 127 N. Larchmont Blvd., is still open and erving lunch and dinner every day of the week, as it has for more than 30 years. With all the recent news of store closings on Larchmont, we wanted to make sure neighbors know what’s still open…and when we noticed some discussion and confusion on social media, we went to visit Le Petit Greek. We learned that recently, while the restaurant was closed for Labor Day, they reduced the dining space inside the restaurant, removed part of the awning on the outside, and covered the windows in the former dining area with paper.
“We were able to do all the construction work in one day, Labor Day, when we were closed anyway,” explained Dimitris Houndalas, owner and manager. “Not one employee lost a single shift,” he added proudly, noting that 80 percent of his employees have been with the restaurant for at least 20 years.
Reducing the restaurant’s footprint also reduced the rent, which had continued to escalate. Add to that the increased costs for food and labor, and Houndalas said it was better to be smaller. He’s also made some improvements inside, including all new walnut tables…as well as new wooden tables outside. Sidewalk service will remain at 127 and they will continue sidewalk service until a new tenant moves into the vacated space. (It is rumored that a facial or nail salon might be moving in, so perhaps sidewalk service will still be available in the evenings.)
“We are thankful for the support of the community over the past 30-some years and we plan to continue, so everyone should stop by,” said Houndalas.
