Lime, CD4 and LAPD Sponsor Scooter Safety Workshop

City Council Member David Ryu has been largely supportive of exploring the viability of new transportation methods, and – more specifically – in creating new ordinances to effectively regulate new transportation techologies like electronic scooters.  So it seems fitting that he is co-sponsoring, with the Lime company and LAPD’s West Traffic Division, a new scooter safety event – First Ride Hollywood – to help educate local residents about scooter safety and to take a group practice ride.

First Ride Hollywood will take place tomorrow – Sunday, October 27 – starting at 11:00 a.m. at the CD4 Hollywood Field office, 6501 Fountain Ave.

According to Lime, the event is a “first-of-its-kind 60-minute interactive and hands-on electric scooter safety course. Designed for riders ages 18+ to learn the rules of the road and demo a Lime electric scooter in a safe and contained environment.”  Further:

“The educational course will be divided into three parts:

Introduction: training on how to use the Lime app and the core safety values

Hands-On: participants will learn how to inspect electric scooters before riding (brakes, accelerator, etc.), how to ride safely on the street, and hands-on safety exercises

Urban Initiation: participants will be able to ride a pre-determined route alongside a trained electric scooter guide.

The event is free of charge, and a free helmet is included.

Finally, please note that “Riders must be 18 years or older to participate. Riders must be signed up as a Lime user or sign up for an account at the event which includes entering their driver’s license and credit card information. First Ride is free but you will need a credit card in order to set up the Lime app on your phone.”
