Longtime Hancock Park Resident Leon Michael Saliba Passes Away at 106

According to an obituary in the Los Angeles Times, Leon Michael Saliba, a 1928 graduate of Los Angeles High School, longtime resident of Hancock Park, and longtime member of the Wilshire Country Club, passed away on June 3, 2017, at the age of 106.  Saliba was born on February 22, 1911 in Campbell, MO. He was the son of Lebanese immigrants who later moved to Los Angeles. After L.A. High, Saliba won a scholarship to CalTech, worked with his maternal uncles in a local construction business, and then started his own insurance brokerage in downtown Los Angeles, where he became “a respected pioneer in the construction bonding and general insurance business.”  He was also a member of several Masonic and Eastern Orthodox organizations.

Saliba was married for 58 years to Dolores Ayoob Saliba, who passed away in 1994.  They built a home in Hancock Park in 1955 and raised their six children there.  The family moved to Toluca Lake in 1974.

Funeral arrangements, as outlined in the obituary:

“Orthodox Services will be held at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, 2300 West Third St., Los Angeles, Saturday, June 17, Visitation at 9:00 AM, Funeral Service at 10:00 AM. Graveside services immediately following at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles. Lunch in celebration of Leon’s life will follow the graveside services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Leon Michael Saliba to: St. Nicholas Cathedral, 2300 West Third St., Los Angeles, CA 90057 or Los Angeles High School c/o The Harrison Memorial Charitable Trust, 4650 West Olympic Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90019.”
