Meetings, Meetings…and More Meetings!

Sycamore Square residents at the Sycamore Square Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting in 2015. The group’s 2017 meeting will be held tomorrow, October 14, 2017

Autumn seems to be an especially busy time for community meetings in our area.  We’ve been receiving a pretty steady stream of notices in the last few weeks, so thought it might be useful to create a big master list.  Some are meetings on community safety, some are annual meetings and board elections for various neighborhood associations, and some are just for fun or information on other topics.  Chance are, though, that at least one will be of interest to you in one way or another.

Saturday, October 14 – Sycamore Square Neighborhood Association Annual Meeting and Elections

2 p.m. at the Firestone building at 8th and La Brea.  Everyone who lives, works or owns property in the Sycamore Square neighborhood (Wilshire to Olympic, La Brea to Citrus) is invited to find out more about what’s going on in the neighborhood at the moment.  There will be elections for three of the association’s seven board seats, special guests including City Council Member David Ryu, CD4 Field Deputy Catherine Landers, and LAPD Senior Lead Officer Hebel Rodriguez…and also a neighborhood potluck, chili cook-off, and great raffle prizes donated by neighborhood merchants.

Monday, October 16 – Miracle Mile Residential Association Community Meeting on Crime and Safety

7 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 5870 W. Olympic Blvd. Those who live in the Miracle Mile neighborhood (La Brea to Fairfax, Wilshire to San Vicente) are invited to come together as a community to talk about keeping the neighborhood – and each other – safe. Joining the discussion will be representatives of City Council Members David Ryu and Herb Wesson. LAPD Senior Lead Officer Hebel Rodriguez will also attend. The meeting will provide residents an opportunity to express their concerns about crime, ask questions, make suggestions, and get important crime-fighting tips.

Tuesday, October 17 – Welcome to Western Community Open House

4-7 p.m. in the parking lot in front of 132 N. Western Ave.   The event officially kicks off the Welcome to Western project by activating a parking lot at the location and engaging community members in interactive mapping and storytelling in which your friends and neighbors can share memories of living, working, shopping, and walking on Western, or ideas about how this street should evolve. Come lounge in a temporary outdoor living room and enjoy an assortment of delicious (and free!) appetizers from diverse food businesses along the Western Avenue business corridor.

Tuesday, October 17 – La Brea-Hancock Homeowners Association Meeting on Crime and Safety

At 7 p.m., The La Brea-Hancock Homeowners Association, representing the area between Wilshire and Third St, and La Brea to Citrus Ave., will also be holding a community safety meeting for residents of that neighborhood. For more information and the location, contact Frank Rosato (who is also the area’s representative on the Wilshire Division Community Police Advisory Board) at [email protected].

Thursday, October 19 – LAPD Wilshire Division Community Police Advisory Board Meeting

These meetings, held at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the Wilshire Community Police Station, are open to all area residents concerned about crime and who would like to learn more about, and form closer relationships with, our local police.

Saturday, October 21 – Community Meeting on 6th Street Safety and Traffic

City Council Member David Ryu, LA Department of Transportation and LA Fire Department will be hosting a community meeting to provide more information about traffic and safety issues, along with proposed improvements and mitigations along the 6th Street corridor between Fairfax and La Brea Avenues. The meeting starts at 11 a.m. at Pan Pacific Park Recreation Center Auditorium, 7600 Beverly Blvd., and is open to the public, so please share with friends and neighbors. For more information, contact [email protected]

Sunday, October 22 – 40th Annual South Lucerne Ave. Block Party

Tuesday, October 24 – Greater Wilshire Neighborhood Council Land Use Committee Meeting
