National Night Out

National Night Out is tonight with events planned at Poinsettia Park, Normandie Park and Seoul Park.

Los Angeles Police Divisions all over the city are supporting the 27th Annual National Night Out tonight, Tuesday, August 7. A variety of special community events, such as block parties, cookouts and peace marches are among the 44 events planned across the city.

Locally, residents are invited to join the Wilshire Division at Poinsettia Park, 7341 Willoughby Ave from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm for  free food, Music, activities for kids, gGiveaways and more! LAPD  Olympic Division has also planned a march from two locations, Normandie Park (Normandie Ave/Pico Blvd) or Seoul Park (Normandie Ave./Olympic Blvd.) to the Olympic Community Police Station from 6 pm- 9pm.

National Night Out is part of a year-long community building campaign designed to:

  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back
  • Last year’s National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.
